I obtained my PE license many years ago, so I'm not taking the exam and I instead purchased this book because it serves as an excellent overview of core knowledge across the various civil engineering disciplines. The breadth doesn't cover all important areas, but it covers the vast majority, which is plenty. The depth isn't enough for this book to serve as a stand-alone comprehensive professional reference, but it's enough to give an introductory overview or quick review of the topics, which is good enough for many purposes (and excessive detail can be detrimental for those purposes). Perhaps the best testimony I can offer is that I've purchased a copy of this book for all of the technical staff in my office, and I intend to use the book as a key resource for our in-house continuing education program. I'm very impressed and thankful that a single author was able to produce a book of this scope and quality.
